First 5 Mono is hiring a Peapod Leader for our Walker/Coleville area playgroup!

The focus of the Peapod Program is the development of playgroups for Mono County parents, with the goals of enhancing the health, social, & emotional development of children ages 0-5, and supporting the mental health and stability of young parents.  The program also provides a safe and secure setting for parents to engage in discussion of mental health issues and issues facing new parents, works to increase the knowledge and confidence of new parents, and provides a forum to encourage new parents to gain a stronger tie to their community.

Please attend your elementary schools’ Kindergarten & Transitional Kindergarten Round Up at Mammoth Unified School District’s Mammoth Elementary or Eastern Sierra Unified School District’s Antelope Elementary (Coleville), Bridgeport, Lee Vining, or Edna Beaman (Benton) Elementary Schools.

If your child will turn five on or before September 1, 2018, then he/she can attend Kindergarten in the fall of 2018. If your child will turn five between September 2 and December 2, 2018, then he/she can attend Transitional Kindergarten in the fall of 2018.

Parents, if you have a child turning 5 by the above dates please bring your child to your elementary school to learn how to enroll in Kindergarten or Transitional Kindergarten, meet the Kindergarten teacher(s) and principal, learn what you can do to support school readiness, and find out about the free Summer Bridge Program!  Also, pick up your FREE backpack full of materials and activities to help you and your child prepare for kindergarten!

Stick around for the FREE Birth–to-5 Health and Safety Fairs that will take place after Kindergarten Round Up at each ESUSD elementary school. The Health and Safety Fair includes free immunization information, nutrition information, car seat installation checks, child ID fingerprinting, free bike helmets, and Peapod playgroup equipment.

Becoming an Emotion Coach: Based on the Parenting Counts Curriculum by Talaris Institute, Emotion Coaching is a parenting technique that teaches children and parents how their emotions work and how to react to feelings in healthy ways. Topics may include Attachment and Parenting Styles, Emotion Coaching, and Discipline and Temper Tantrums.

This 5-week class is open to parents with children ages 0-5.
